Dear Playing with the Enemy and Savas Beatie e-letter Subscribers,

Remember playing catch with your father on the front lawn? Or what it was like to watch your son's championship Little League game? In honor of Father's Day, Savas Beatie and Playing with the Enemy author Gary Moore have joined forces to host a baseball literary contest!

Submit an original short essay (500-word maximum) about baseball, your dad, and what it all means to you. Or, as a father, describe what baseball means to you and your son or daughter. Please email all entries to Gary Moore gmoore@playingwiththeenemy.com by Friday, June 16.

Three independent readers will be selected to judge the competition. The entries will be judged based upon writing style, originality, and whether they strike that special emotional "chord" that resonates with baseball, dads, and tying on the cleats on a hot summer day.

The author of the winning entry will be awarded a signed first edition copy of "Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War, and a Field of Broken Dreams" when it debuts this September. The runner-up receives an 18-inch Playing with the Enemy collector's baseball bat. The winners will be announced Friday, June 23 and their entries will be posted here http://playingwiththeenemy.com. By submitting your entry, you agree to allow it to be posted if it is selected as a winning entry. Prizes will be awarded by September 20.
