Gene Moore

He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.
His life... and
maybe our
national
pastime...
would be
forever altered.

A Freedom Story
by Marilee McInnis
Tuesday, 31 January 2006

Pubished in the February 2006 'Southwest Airlines Spirit' Inflight Magazine!

At Southwest Airlines, our Employees and our Customers are our heart, and we like to call our LUV jets a little slice of home – especially for our frequent travelers who might spend as much time in the air as they do on the ground. As President & Managing Partner of Covenant Air & Water, LLC (www.aquativa.com), Gary W. Moore travels the country extensively, recruiting new independent AQUAtiva Dealers.

“Southwest is the best value for our growing company’s dollar, and I always feel at home onboard a Southwest plane,” says Gary. “Southwest is on time, friendly, and fits into the budget of our growing company. Also, it is said that a handful of peanuts a day will lower your cholesterol, so I enjoy the health benefits of flying Southwest!”

Traveling on Southwest has helped Gary grow his company, but it has also allowed him to do something even closer to his heart: write his father’s life story. In his soon-to-be-published (fall 2006) book, Playing with the Enemy (www.playingwiththeenemy.com), Gary writes of his father’s interrupted dream to play baseball in the major leagues after serving in the Navy during World War II. Time spent in Southwest gate areas and in the air helped make the dream of writing Playing with the Enemy a reality.

“The comfort of flying Southwest has allowed me to do some of my best work while flying,” says Gary. “I wrote a significant portion of Playing with the Enemy at 30,000 feet.”

As a member of Southwest’s Rapid Rewards program, Gary’s reward for flying Southwest goes beyond creating a successful company and writing a book – it reunites him with his heart and home! The Rapid Rewards he earns, along with a companion pass for his wife of 30 years, Arlene, allows them the chance to see their children more often. “Southwest brings my family to me and me to my family,” says Gary. “I am forever grateful.”

“Family is a theme in Gary’s life, whether it is writing a book about his father’s life or using his Southwest Awards to bring his family closer together. It is fitting, then, that the book he wrote about his father could soon be made into major motion picture starring his son, Toby Moore (www.tobymoore.com) who would play his grandfather. But, Gary is also part of another family – the Southwest family.

“A few years ago, Toby was in a near tragic motorcycle accident. Southwest was amazing in how they handled my frantic and emotional calls to arrange immediate travel for my family,” says Gary. “Someone from Southwest called the nurses’ station at the hospital the next day to make sure all was well and wish us the best. I feel like a Southwest family member.”

If home truly is where the heart is, Gary always has a home at Southwest
