He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.

Be Strong! Take Heart! We did not melt down!
October 22nd 2008

Dear Friends,

The rhetoric from our government and news media has changed. They now talk about recession, a soft economy and a slow recovery. They are now longer using phrases like "Total meltdown of our economy", "collapse of the American way of life" and "total and complete worldwide depression." The irresponsibility of these scare tactics is incomprehensible to me but it is what it is. I think someday soon we will look back at our mainstream news media and current crop of politicians with both sadness and disgust. Yes, we have serious economic problems but to purposefully use scare tactics to force an economic recovery package or to get votes is shameful and dishonest. This is the current state of politics and news media in our country.

I want to reinforce what I said in my last letter. Our greatest enemy today is fear (False Evidence Appearing Real). Fear can cause us all to act in ways that is not only "not helpful" but totally and completely counterproductive to the solution needed for the problems we face. Move slow and cautiously with the decisions you make. Do not act emotionally, but logically. This is not just me saying so, but also Warren Buffet, the most successful investor in the history of our country. When we act out of fear alone, we lose.

What can we, as individuals, do to make this time in our history better? First, again, act logically and not out of fear with your business and financial decisions. Second... look around at who and what you can make better. A comforting word to a frightened our troubled person can have a profound difference in their life. I see it every day. People are still rattled and frightened by the gloom and doom rhetoric. Smile, place a hand on their shoulder and assure them that no matter what happens, we will not just survive but thrive. Ask them if there is anything you can do for them. The answer will probably be no, but just knowing that you care can make a profound difference in someone’s life today. Who do you know that needs a positive word of encouragement from you?

The greatest nations in the history of the world became great because they held a profound and positive vision of their future. Those same nations fell when their vision of their future turned to gloom and doom. It is a simple truth that what we expect to happen often does happen, but only because we believe it and our beliefs drive it to be so.

We live in the greatest nation in the world! We have more opportunities in a day that many people in the world experience in a lifetime! The best years of our lives are in our future and not in our past! We will survive then thrive! Believe it and let’s work and pray to make it so!

Today’s mission: Give positive words of encouragement to those who need it and if you are so disposed, pray for the health and wellbeing of your friends and neighbors!

I am praying for you.

Warmest Regards,

Gary
