Take Heart! Be Strong!
October 17th 2008

Our world has been rocked by the current financial crisis. I see it on the faces of business travelers at airports. I see it on the streets and hear it in the voices of people I know. Take heart and be strong. We live in the safest place on the globe and enjoy a system that encourages success. We will come back stronger than ever before. The American Spirit has endured worse and we will not only survive, but thrive.

It is very important to understand that much of what is happening is based on perception more than fact. When consumer confidence is shaken, people stop spending money. When the revenue to businesses slows due to this lack of confidence, hard economic times become a self-fulfilling prophecy. In many ways our actions cause our fears to become true.

That is not to say that there are real problems in our economy. There is a crisis of confidence and a credit freeze that threatens us al. But fear and anxiety can do more damage than any of the issues we face and this fear of failure and anticipation of disaster only make the current situation worse. FDR was right when he said we have nothing to fear but fear itself! And he said this at a time when the dangers were greater and economy much worse. As bleak as it seems right now, we are not there, but FDR’s statement is as true today as it was then. Fear is our greatest enemy. Anxiety is eating away at our confidence and our lack of confidence is dragging us down. Take heart!

We have stumbled but we will not fall. We have slowed but we will not stop. In the midst of all these problems, opportunities are created. As the losses mount, others are recording and enjoying gains. Look around your environment and world. What opportunities are being created for you?

What is fear? False Evidence Appearing Real! Most of what we worry about is not happening and will not. Most of our fears and anxiety is based upon false evidence appearing real. Believe me, I suffer the same anxiety, but I pull myself up by thinking logically about the state of affairs and set the emotion aside. I explore and plan what actions I can take to make a positive difference in the lives of others and create gains amidst the losses. You can do the same. Look around. There are countless ways you can make a positive difference in the lives of others and benefit in the process.

We live in the United States of America, the greatest country in the world. In the middle of this crisis we still have an economy most other nation’s only dream of having. As bad as it seems, it is still better than anywhere else. We are resilient and are already bouncing back bigger and better than before.

Take heart! Be strong! Be confident in your abilities and confident in this greatest nation in the history of the world. Be self reliant. Do not expect the government to bail us out. They cannot. It is we the citizens of this country who will rescue this economy and move on to be bigger and better before! We are Americans. Nothing keeps us down.

Pray today for your neighbors and friends who are frightened and worried. Ask God how you can help them be strong. Pray for our government leaders to have wisdom and act quickly to the positive benefit of the country and not for their personal agendas. Pray for your family and for yourself. Ask God to provide your daily bread and to show you how you can make a positive difference in the lives of your family, friends and the hundreds of millions you do not know. Pray for personal guidance as to how you can be part of the solution to the problems we face.

Take heart! Be strong! Do something today to make a positive difference in the lives of someone else.

Finally, if you find that this was helpful to you, please pass it along to others you feel can benefit from this message.

Let us overcome the fear and anxiety and work together as Americans do to make a profound and positive contribution to others.

Warmest Regards,

Gary
