Gene Moore

He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.
His life... and
maybe our
national
pastime...
would be
forever altered.

Greetings from Nebraska
October 16th 2008

Dear Friends,

Greetings from the North Platte, NE airport where I am delayed!

I had the sincere pleasure today of being the speaker at the North Platte Town Hall Lecture Series. What an amazing event in a wonderful and historic town! The North Platte Town Hall Lecture series is held 4 times a year in a gorgeous old and renovated theater down town. We had a crowd of roughly 700 for the lecture and about 300 for the following luncheon. The audiences were engaging and I feel blessed to have been a part of this wonderful event. The talk was about Playing with the Enemy with a focus on the benefit of communication.

My oldest son, Toby, said to me a year ago, "When a person dies, it is as if a library burns to the ground." We spoke today of the importance of sharing your life lessons and stories with your family and friends. It was a largely older crowd and I think the message resonated with the group. We all have volumes of information in our heads that can benefit others if we are willing to communicate with others. The lessons that we have learned, the mistakes we have made and the victories we have achieved are all valuable lessons to be shared with others.

Thank you to all I met in North Platte and a special thank you to Frances Smith for being my guide around town. Thank you, Frances and the truly wonderful people of North Platte, Nebraska. I am looking forward to the next opportunity to return.

Warmest Regards,

Gary
