Gene Moore

He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.
His life... and
maybe our
national
pastime...
would be
forever altered.

New and Improved Blog?
Friday, March 21st 2008

I received an Email this week from a young man asking, "Where have you been? Why don't you blog more?" In answer to the first question, I have been all over. If you look at the events or past events pages at www.playingwiththeenemy.com you will see where I am going and where I have been promoting this story. Between the book and business, I am always on the move. I am promoting my business, promoting my book or working on one of my new books around the clock. I also do an increasing amount of motivational speaking.

As to the question of the frequency of my blogs, I get that question often and I pledge to blog more beginning today. I promise. But what do you want to know? I have received several Emails saying things like, "Your blogs are written like news articles rather than casual conversations," or "Tell us what is going on with you. We can get your book news from your site." Quite frankly, I have trouble understanding what I might be doing away from the book that anyone might find interesting but I will do my best. Beginning immediately, I will try to make the switch from "newsy and informational" to "casual and personal." As I do, please let me know what you think.

I have also been asked why there is not a place for readers to comment or respond to my blogs. That is a question I will pass along to my webmaster and see if we can add a response feature ASAP. I think I would blog more and would find it more personally engaging if you can respond because it then becomes more conversational. I will let you know the moment that feature becomes available.

What am I doing right now? Arlene and I are preparing for the launch of the paperback, published by Penguin and the audio book, published (recorded?) by Oasis Audio. You can find the tour dates here at http://www.playingwiththeenemy.com/events.htm and I hope you will join us at one of the locations nearest you. Both new editions have updated and new information and also have an author "Afterword" sharing what has happened in the life of this story since originally being published in hardcover. I think you will find it fascinating.

What else is new? Arlene and I are making preparations to get our garden ready for planting, so as soon as we return from the tour, we can plant. Does it surprise you that I am a gardener? It is such a wonderful form of stress relief and I receive so much joy watching the progress from planting all the way to harvest. Last year we canned tomatoes, salsa, spaghetti sauce and barbeque sauce. There was not one moment that I did not enjoy. We also planted jalapenos, habaneras and cerano peppers, watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber and zucchini. I actually harvested a 57 lb. watermelon last year! Three years ago I planted 8 grape vines but they do not seem to grow. They are alive but that is about it. At the side of the garden I also have 6 cherry trees. This year we are doubling the size of the garden and I cannot wait. I'll post a few pictures as the garden progresses.

Thank you for your continued interest in Playing with the Enemy and this blog.
