Gene Moore

He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.
His life... and
maybe our
national
pastime...
would be
forever altered.

Thank you JDRF Desert Southwest Chapter!

Last night I had the sincere pleasure of attending the Arizona Diamondbacks game at the beautiful Chase Field … or as the locals still lovingly refer to it as BOB. I was there for the privilege of making a donation to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) on behalf of a former foundation created by Former Cub, #10, Ron Santo (the best player in the history of baseball "not yet" in the Hall of Fame). The JDRF is a one of a kind organization focused solely on finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. There will be a cure to this disease and it will be largely due to the focus and dedication of this organization. I want to take a moment to personally thank the JDRF Desert Southwest Chapter for their hard work and for allowing me to play a small part in their important evening. I also want to thank the Diamondbacks leadership for allowing and supporting this evening to take place. It is truly one more sign of the class of the Diamondbacks organization.

At this event, a brave and special young man named Andrew Jentlie, recently diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes, was honored by the City of Chandler AZ with a Mayor Proclamation declaring Friday, September 8th ANDREW JENTLIE DAY IN CHANDLER. Andrew accepted on behalf of all the children diagnosed both before him and those who will unfortunately be diagnosed after him. This money was raised in part by five young men (Toby Moore www.tobymoore.com , Shawn McKay, Josh Schlessinger and Kerry Johnson who made the extreme physical and mental sacrifice of swimming 350+ miles from Mackinac Island to Chicago. The final donation of this fund will be made to JDRF Chicago, September 14, 2006, at 9 a.m. Playing with the Enemy movie news conference in Chicago.

For those of you who spend your time and treasure supporting the JDRF, thank you. For those of you who may not, please take a moment and visit www.jdrf.org. And consider making a positive and profound impact on the lives of those who currently live every day with diabetes and those yet diagnosed. Someday soon, there will be one single dollar spent, that finally ends this awful disease forever. Wouldn't it be wonderful if it were from you? The cure for Diabetes may be in your pocket!
