Playing with the Enemy Book & Movie News!
The Book!
Wow. I didn’t know how I would feel when it happened, but the feeling is truly indescribable. I am holding Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War and a Field of Broken Dreams in my hand. Not the galley, but the finished and published product and the only word that comes to mind is wow.
I’m one of those readers who has always balked at the idea of reading books online. I want to hold a well made book in my hand. I know I am biased but Savas Beatie has done an amazing job of producing a beautiful and well made book. There is a difference in books; some are well made and some are not. Ted Savas has out done himself with this one. Everything from Val Laolagi’s beautiful illustrations and Jim Zach’s outstanding cover to the solid and beautiful printing and binding are amazing. Savas Beatie truly has done a masterful job of taking the words in the manuscript and producing a beautiful book. Thank you, Ted.
The Movie!
We have VERY exciting news regarding the Playing with the Enemy movie … I just can’t tell you yet! But let me tease you with this. The deal is done. The Producer is an Academy Award winner and you will instantly know his work. The Director is someone who I think is destined to be one of the all time greats … and the actor who will play Gene Moore? Well, I can only tell you that his father is thrilled and I am certain his grandfather is looking down from heaven and is absolutely overjoyed. But … I can’t tell you more until the official announcement is made. We are planning a press conference with the Director and Star within 30 days. Would you like to attend? We’ll publish the time and place within a week and we hope you can join us!
Now, for the first time, this is absolutely real to me. I was told today that books are being shipped from the warehouse to book stores nationwide for our September 15 release and Arlene and I are preparing for the book tour. There is a movie deal and we expect it to move into production quickly. This is no longer a fanciful thought, turned into a dream that became a goal, followed by a passionate work in progress. It is now a book and ready for distribution on September 15, 2006 and truly “soon to be a major motion picture.” I feel so very blessed.
