Gene Moore

He was a baseball prodigy. At the age of fifteen, Gene Moore was a boy, playing like a man, in a game where men, play like boys.

Headed for baseball stardom with the Brooklyn Dodgers, his destiny was interrupted by
Pearl Harbor.
His life... and
maybe our
national
pastime...
would be
forever altered.

Notes from Book Expo of America

What a surreal experience! Book Expo of America (BEA) in Washington, DC now seems like a blur. BEA is a high-energy nonstop event that is both exciting and exhausting. My compliments to the staff and leadership of BEA. They did an outstanding job.

Thank you to the hundreds of you who stopped by and said hello and expressed your support for Playing with the Enemy (PWTE). And thank you to those who stopped by at the booth on Friday for not noticing -- or at least not commenting on the fact I was not wearing socks. What do you do when packing for one of the most important events of your life? Forget to pack socks! If not for my good friend, Bill Guertin, CEO (Chief Enthusiasm Officer) of The 800-Pound Gorilla, I would have been ‘sockless’ all weekend. Sockless or not, to find that so many people are enthused by and supportive of this story is both humbling and overwhelming. To say thank you just does not seem enough. I am grateful beyond my ability to express on this page. Take a look at pictures from BEA at the Bartholomeaux PR page - www.b-pr.com and also at the Savas Beatie page - www.savasbeatie.com/pwte.html I must confess that it is very exciting to know that William J. “Bill” Bennett, statesman and author; Jim Belushi, actor/author; Chicken Soup authors Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield all left BEA with signed copies of Playing with the Enemy in hand. Wow!

I guess this week is just full of firsts. My first BEA, my first book signing event, and now I am blogging for the first time!

Believe it or not, BEA was the first time that I actually met the people I have worked so closely with while preparing PWTE. Publisher Ted Savas, www.savasbeatie.com Marketing Director Sarah Stephan and Publicist Carole Bartholomeaux www.b-pr.com . We had talked daily and exchanged literally thousands of Emails, but this was our first face to face and it was incredible. I am blessed to be part of an amazing team and it seems like we have been friends for years. The only teammate missing was Lit Agent Tris Coburn. Tris has been begging for news of the event, but as they say, “What happens at BEA, stays at BEA!”

Yesterday, Carole sent me a tentative schedule for our upcoming book tour, so we will post that as soon as it is finalized. Beginning September 15th, almost 30 days straight, 14 hours a day -- sounds fun to me! What will we do with all the spare time?

Being a first time author, I am counting on your help to get the word out about Playing with the Enemy! I can’t do it without you and together, I am convinced we can make publishing history. Tell others about the book. When you are in your favorite book store, tell the manager you are looking forward to the release of Playing with the Enemy and direct them to our webpage. If you know anyone in your local media, also tell them about this story and pass their name and contact info back to us and we will follow up. Your help is invaluable in creating support for the release of this book on September 15, 2006.

Well, I made it through my first blog and as far as I can tell, no one was injured in the attempt! Thank you so very much for your continued interest in Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, a World at War and a Field of Broken Dreams.
